Microsoft has shown off a bunch of new hardware at its special Surface event held on 2 October. The tech giant’s new product line-up includes Surface Pro 6, Surface Laptop 2, Surface Studio 2 and Surface Headphones.
Microsoft Surface: Pro 2 and Laptop 2
The newly launched Surface Pro 6 and Surface Laptop 2 come with performance-boosting 8th-gen quad-core processors. The 8th-gen processors are also equipped with improved internal cooling to support faster-processing capabilities than the previous-gen.
Microsoft claims Surface Pro 6 is 67% faster than its predecessor while the Surface Laptop 2 is 85% faster than the previous-gen.
The Pro 6 weighs around 1.7 pounds with a battery life rating of 13.5 hours. Some of its salient features include a 12.3-inch display, 16GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD.
As a design limitation, the USB-C ports are missing on the Pro 6 like in its predecessor. The Core i5 powered Pro 6 will be released on 16 October at a starting price of $899.
The Surface Laptop 2 sports the thinnest ever LCD on a laptop with similar design features as the original. The Laptop 2 boasts a 13.5-inch screen which makes it noticeably bigger than the Pro 6. Its display features 1500:1 contrast ratio, which is significantly higher than the previous gen. The new Surface laptop is rated to offer around 14.5 hours of battery life. In other words, its battery backup is an hour more than the Pro 6.
The Laptop 2 is already up for pre-orders (starting 2 October). However, its release date is set for 16 October at an estimated price of $999.
Microsoft Surface Studio 2
The Surface Studio 2 mimics the overall design aesthetics of its predecessor. However, it holds the record for being the fastest Surface device ever. Sporting a DCI-P3 color space, the device equips a 38% brighter screen along with 22% more contrast than the original.
Nvidia’s next-gen Pascal graphics powers the new Surface Studio. The Surface device also equips a 2TB Solid State Drive, which is a significant upgrade from the hybrid disk drive. Given the performance enhancements, it is no surprise that the device is up for pre-orders at a staggering entry price of $3,999.
Microsoft Surface Headphones
Surface Headphones make a debut entry into Microsoft’s extensive hardware line-up. Its key features include Bluetooth capability coupled with active noise cancellation up to 13 levels and integrated Cortana. Among other specifications, it comes with 40mm drivers, and 4 each of active noise-canceling mics and beam forming mics.
Microsoft’s new headphones will go up for sale later this year at an estimated price of $350.
